Proud footy mum here! I’m participating in the StreetBeat Challenge to raise funds for a life-saving AED (defibrillator) at the Shark Pond. That’s the home ground of our junior rugby league club at Melba, the Belconnen United Sharks.

Kicking-off StreetBeat 2025

Friday 14th Nov

First Aid resources are vital in sport and every minute counts if a player or spectator experiences Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

SCA is not a heart attack. I’ve learnt through the StreetBeat that a heart attack is more of a ‘plumbing issue’ and SCA is more of an ‘electrical issue’. SCA can happen to anyone, anywhere and unless you get access to an AED within the first 3-5 minutes, chances of survival are around 10%. So, timing and access to these devices are critical.

In addition to running after my kids, this year for the StreetBeat challenge I’ve set my exercise target for an average of 30 minutes per day during November. My fundraising target is $2,500. It’s simple; if we hit the target, we get an AED. The AED will be available to be used by the club for game days and training and will also be available to the Melba community 24/7.

Any donation, big or small, can help us go a long way. I appreciate your support. Go Sharkies!
